Sociocracy UK

How-to, community & developing Collaborative Governance in the UK

While the school is yet to fully engage with Sociocracy, there are several individuals there who think that Sociocracy might help them with several governance issues, and we have been encouraged to share this job application for their new head teacher among people who, as well as being suitably qualified, may also have ideas about structure and improving organisational dynamics and wellbeing.

Lewes New School is an exciting and forward thinking school, with a strong emphasis on child and play-centred learning. The deadline is looming, but serious candidates are encouraged to get in touch.

Please share. Many thanks

We are looking for someone who is motivated by the challenge of innovative practice; is inspired to lead a primary school that is pioneering in its educational approach; values authenticity and respectful communication in their teaching practice and in their interactions with staff, parents and children.

We are a small community-based primary school which aims to enable children to find their true spirit and to flourish as confident, self-motivated individuals.

Over the 11 years of our existence, we have developed a distinctive project-based approach to primary education, creating opportunities for the curriculum to be shaped by our collective curiosity and imagination.

Ofsted 2011

‘Lewes New School provides a good quality of education. Its aim is to provide a curriculum that is formed by responding to pupils’ inquisitive questions rather than predetermined subjects. Pupils make good progress because of good teaching and assessment and it successfully meets its aims. The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils is good as is pupils’ behaviour.’

Required Knowledge & Experience:

Our children have told us they want someone who will:

  • be kind, exciting, original, stimulating and inspiring, listen to the children, take on children’s ideas
  • be firm but not strict, give us freedom, have a sense of humour and an open mind
  • be like a magician, a lover of wildlife
