This is an invitation to all, then, first to explore these mind maps and look at sociocracy from an different persepective, viewpoint and medium. Rakesh doesn't claim that all aspects of the mind maps are correct and accurate, so this is also an invitation to you all to suggest improvements - using comments to makes suggestions, but also for us to query or comment in other ways. Use this as a discussion area.

Rakesh has asked me to put these mind maps here. Unfortunately, this is proving to be more technically difficult than I expected. The mind maps are in the Xmind software, which Ning does not accept. I would have to make and upload them as images, thereby loosing interactivity. I have to say the mind maps are really best viewed in the Xmind format, as you can expand and contract the different elements. I have therefore simply loaded the mind map in its original format on our main website here:

http://sociocracy.co.uk/mindmaps/Sociocracy.xmind

When you click the link it will ask you to save or open the file - in order to view the map, however, you will also need to have the Xmind software installed on your computer - this is free and you can download at http://www.xmind.net/. If you have the software installed you can open the file directly, otherwise save it first.

There are 16 images altogether derived from the mind map, three of which are attached below. Ning doesn't allow more than three attachments. Immediately below are two more of the arms of the mind map, for sample illustration purposes. If you want to see the full set, please let me know - although I would strongly urge you to view the lot directly in xmind, which you will be able to if you download the software. Have fun mind-mapping, maybe in due course I'll find a way for us to be able to share-mindmap online.

For now, I'd like to thank Rakesh for the great visualisations of sociocracy.

Sociocracy is about the power of self-organizing environments that relish both/and thinking. In today’s uncertain world, we are all scrambling for better tools to deal with complexity. To foster collaboration in a small organization or on a massive scale, we must find fundamentally smarter ways to challenge what we think we know and how we communicate. The journey is to learn to self-organize in a way that we all win. “Both-and” is a discipline that respects and courageously holds all ideas. When combined with circular structures, it uncovers our blind spots, crosses silos, and taps into the genius of self-organization.

In the webinar, get acquainted with basic principles of sociocracy. Take away a few simple but powerful techniques for better meetings. Meet others who share your curiosity about better ways to work together.

In the last two decades, the model has spread to six continents and hundreds of organisations. Clearly defined roles in a cooperative business game in which all players win. Rapid iterations and structured retrospectives at every level of the organisation, from the shop floor to the board room. These are attributes of the Sociocratic organisation.

Sociocracy provides a framework derived from the principle of consent and a deep understanding of the cybernetics of self-organising complex systems. The principle of consent means that management must get the agile team’s consent when creating policy that affects its working methods -- this prevents the agile team from choking on too much red tape. It also means that the team must get management’s consent when it chooses new business to pursue, thus making agile teams accountable. The cybernetics of organisational design make sure the agile team (or at least the project manager and a representative chosen by the agile team) is in the meeting where management discusses the agile team. This 2 (or more) person overlap guarantees informal communication between management and developers, and makes accountability much easier.

If you want to learn more, join Pieter van der Meché and Nathaniel Whitestone for a one day experiential workshop in using Sociocracy to apply Agile principles and practices to your whole organisation.

LEARNING ABOUT SOCIOCRACY
Many of us have already been developing our understanding and practice of sociocracy here in the UK.

We have been collecting together people across the UK who want to either begin or deepen their enquiry into working with the principles and practice of Collaborative Governance within ourselves, the organisations, teams or communities in which we work, or even our families and relationships. We are now ready to launch and you are invited.

THURSDAY 12th APRIL 10am -12pm

We will meet in person and via teleconferencing from wherever you are, to assess our diverse needs and 'set the compass' for our further adventures in learning and practising together, which might include mentoring, training, certification, peer support, networking, self-directed learning and seeking professional work. It will provide immense benefit to the places and people where you work and live.

It will be facilitated by JOHN BUCK, leader of the English language Sociocratic Professional Association, based in the US.

It is crucial that you get in touch now to reserve your place. We are still establishing some of the details and will communicate these with you directly after you have registered your interest. Let me know if you want to join us OR if you cannot make that time but want to know more about this and stay connected. I will send you details of how to connect to the conference and add your input and questions. I will be happy to discuss the details with you.

You might know of others who are not already signed up here at SociocracyUK.ning.com - please do forward and share this with anyone that you think might be interested.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes Sue

This conference is based in Brighton UK for face-2-face contact. It will be facilitated by John Buck during his visit to the UK. We will make arrangements for teleconference facilities.

The intention is to find out who would like to join a sociocratic study circle based from the UK. The design is intended to include people in organising the process and outputs that will be favourable for their learning and practice in sociocratic organisation and principles.
