I was speaking with Nate the other day and he showed me that sociocracy is about equivalent voice rather than eqivalent power. I found that a very helpful distinction. We are unique and have different levels of power expression - we cannot be equal and unique. I have seen that to provide the space for equivalent voice within our busy lives is profoundly rewarding not only for the resultant decision but also for the feelings involved in how the contributions are received.

Following on from the recent Social, we discussed what format (and focus, location, host) would be useful. Keep it simple and stick with the beers? Dinner With Flipcharts? A facilitated get together focussed on developing the community, and addressing our needs? A co-learning workshop?

My personal answers to those questions:
1. My fantasy is that sociocracy is about equivalent power within a group or organsiation. It enables people to decide the important things that create the flavour of the group and enables indivduals to set in action OR implement the things that need to happen to move our intentions forward. It is a different way of thinking and acting about the way we work together.
In April this year, at the end of a 2 day workshop with John Buck, co-author of 'We The People - Consenting to a deeper democracy', during conversations about how we can support each other and meet again, Sue Bell proposed that we prepare a simple 'personal development plan' related to our learning in Sociocracy, so that we can best mutually support our growth. Grab a scrap of paper or the back of a beer mat and take a few minutes to answer these questions:
• What do I know about Sociocracy? (You might know nothing at all or be a black belt)
• What do I want to know about Sociocracy?
• How can I find out more about Sociocracy?
• What do I need to be able to use it where i live and work?
We intend the social to be relaxed and friendly, and fun as well as an opportunity for learning and networking. We intend to eat and get a drink together during the evening.
